After missing much of his sophomore season due to injury, Wilson soon-to-be junior Chris Betts received a tremendous honor to kick off his junior campaign. The young catcher, who is already committed to the University of Tennessee, was selected to play in the 2013 New Balance Area Code Baseball Games, August 5-10 at Blair Field in Long Beach.

“It came as a shock,” said Betts (6’0”, 205). “Usually it’s only seniors that get to go, but I’m so glad that me and two of my friends (Aliso Niguel’s Kyle Molnar and Chino Hills’ Bailey Falter) were chosen as juniors.”

Betts has recovered from the ankle injury sustained against Poly last season, and is now back in good playing form. “I feel amazing,” Betts said with a grin. “I’m all the way back.”

The Moore League has had a lot of representation at the Area Code Games recently, with recent grads Shane Watson and JP Crawford representing Lakewood and fellow Bruin Chase DeJong playing in the games two years ago.

“I want to learn a lot,” Betts said about what he hopes to get from the experience. “There’s a lot of knowledge there with the players and coaches and I’m excited that it’s in Long Beach. I won’t have to travel and be at a hotel, I get to stay at home.”
